  • Take the tool belt or duty belt off before sitting down. Put it in the footwell of the passenger side, a door pocket, or a rack. This is the single change that fixes the geometry.
  • Empty the front pockets of anything hard — a folding knife, a multi-tool, a bunch of keys. They sit under the lap belt too.
  • Set the seat before the belt. Steel-toe boots and knee pads change how you sit compared with regular shoes, so the seating position from your own car is not the one you use in the van.
